Welcome to the michigan council of teachers of mathematics (MCTM)!

You are in the right place for finding Michigan educators passionate about mathematics and mathematics education at all levels, Pre-K through college.

MCTM has a long history in Michigan of being the go-to organization for information, advocacy, and expertise in mathematics education.  Our current Board members are networked into a number of national, state, and local mathematics and education organizations, and bring that knowledge and expertise to you through our organization activities, including this website.

How else does MCTM serve you and the mathematics education community?  Here are a few of our MCTM and related activities:

  • Annual Conference and Intitute, providing dozens of quality presentations, nationally-known keynote and Institute speakers, up-to-the moment Michigan mathematics updates, and time for colleagues to connect and share.
  • Joint Education Conference with our Special Education colleagues, focused on improving mathematics teaching and learning for struggling students.
  • Service by a number of Board members and MCTM members on various state-level committees, task forces, and advisory groups, including many at the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).
  • Frequent updates by email and Facebook of breaking news in the mathmatics education community.
  • Advocacy on behalf of our membership for high-quality, high-equity mathematics teaching and learning for all students and teachers at all levels.
  • MCTM book studies - enriching and convenient in a virtual format.
  • Several Board meetings and retreats each year to actively engage in the work of crafting policy and practice for mathematics education (curriculum, instruction, assessment) at the state level in particular, and national levels when warranted.
  • This website, serving as a hub of information and resources around mathematics education.
  • Scholarships - MCTM awards scholarships for undergraduate and now graduate level study in mathematics education.  We also now offer conference scholarships so that educators who, due to financial barriers, might miss out on the exceptional opportunity for professional learning the annual summer conference provides might have access.

If you are already serving MCTM as a volunteer, Board member, or general member, thank you!

If you are not yet a member, and want to be a part of or support great mathematics education in Michigan, please visit our Membership webpage, or contact our office at 734.477.0421.

If we can be of any service to you, please contact us as well.

Thanks for visiting our website, and for your role in education.
