January – May 2025

Fact Fluency Learning Series
Based on work by Jennifer Bay-Williams

Join MCTM as we host a statewide learning series inspired by the work of Jennifer Bay-Williams on
Math Fact Fluency.

 Educators across Michigan are invited to collaborate as we:

  • Build a common definition of math fact fluency
  • Explore effective assessment practices
  • Learn strategies to help students develop efficient, accurate, and flexible thinking

Each session will include:

  • Engaging learning experiences
  • Professional discussions with colleagues across the state
  • Practical action steps to implement immediately in your classroom

 

Session Agenda

This will be a 5-Part Series.  Each session will focus on the practices for enhancing learning and thinking in a K-12 classroom and will run one hour each day via teleconference.

    Overview of Math Fact Fluency and The Research Base
  • February 17, 2026          
    Progressions of Strategy Development and Implications to the Classroom
  • March 17, 2026                
    Tools for Assessing Fact Fluency and Using Assessments Formatively

  • April 14, 2026                   
    Embedding Daily Routines with Fluency and Planning for Classroom Routines

  • May 12, 2026                   
    Revisiting Big Ideas and Supporting Schoolwide Vision

 Receive up to 5 SCECH  (pending approval)
