CCSSMathematics Resources ~ Updated December 30, 2013
CCSS Videos from The Hunt Institute The Hunt Institute has a number of CCSS videos, including videos with Dr. Bill McCallum; see the related blog post at: http://isupportthecommoncore.net/2013/12/13/commoncoreauthorsondevelopingthestandards/
Bill McCallum's Blog Dr. McCallum is the CCSSM lead writer. His blog has numerous resources, presentations, links, and the like to current (and archived) CCSSM materials.
Michigan CCSS Resources website sponsored by MAISA (Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators) and REMC (Regional Educational Media Center Association of Michigan)
Statement of Support of the CCSSM from the Conference Board on the Mathematical Sciences (CBMS) July 24, 2013
Parent Resouces for the CCSS Located in the Tools section of Dr. McCallum's blog
Attending to the verbs in the Standards for Mathematical Practice a guest blog post from Dev Sinha
Implementation Action Briefs for the CCSS for Elementary School Leaders, Secondary School Leaders, and Counselors...and other publications
Real World Math from NCTM new website for middle grades mathematics; articles, activities, experiments, investigations, problems
3Act Math Problems Several websites focus on threeact math problems. These are similar in approach to the SBAC constructed response / performance task problems. They're also great to have students create and present. These sites include:
Core Math Tools Core Math Tools (CMT) is a FREE, downloadable software tool that provides a variety of technology tools for exploring mathematics and problem solving. Tools are available for algebra and functions, data analysis and statistics, geometry, and simulation. This tool was created by curriculum and software developers from Michigan State University and Western Michigan University, in conjunction with the CorePlus Mathematics Project. The tools are being hosted on the NCTM website.
Achieve's CTErelated Assessment Tasks Achieve has partnered with National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education (NASDCTEc) to develop and post a number of realworld scenario tasks.
Michigan ASCD CCSS Resources Michigan ASCD has developed a list of CCSS resources.
Danielle Seabold's CCSSM Live Binder Danielle Seabold, Mathematics Consultant at Kalamazoo RESA, has compiled a comprehensive CCSSM resource file in her Live Binder, and updates it frequently.
A Graph of the CCSSM Jason Zimba's overview and maps showing how the CCSSM are connected. A related document with narrative is available at: http://commoncoretools.me/2011/07/06/examplesofstructureinthecontentstandards/
NCSM CCSSM Webinar Series Check out this series of webinars on the CCSSM from the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM). Topics range from introducing the CCSSM, to using the NCSM materials alignment tools (see information below), to the Standards for Mathematical Practice. http://www.mathedleadership.org/events/webinars.html
PTA Parent Guides These gradebygrade guides (in English and in Spanish) are a great resource for Parents, explaining what their child should be learning a the given grade level. They also provide suggestions for parents for learning activities outside of school. http://www.pta.org/4446.htm OR http://www.PTA.org/parentsguide .
Achieve the Core website articles, websites, and research
Illustrative Mathematics Project Illustrates the range and types of mathematical work that students are expected to experience as the CCSSM are implemented with fidelity. Creator/Lead Author is Bill McCallum, the lead CCSSM standards writer. This site continues to be under development. http://www.illustrativemathematics.org
CCSSM Learning Progressions Documents Bill McCallum's group is working to provide several mathematics progressions documents, describing how a topic evolves as students move from grade to grade. Visit http://ime.math.arizona.edu/progressions Currently a draft of the K5 Number and Operations in Base Ten document is available. Scroll down to the "Products" section at the bottom of the page.
Mathematics Curricular Analysis Tool for the CCSSM (Now Available) Creator/Lead Author Bill Bush from the University of Louisville is heading this project to produce three tools to analyze curricular materials vs. the CCSSM. One tool will help users see how well key content areas are treated in each of four grade bands (K2, 35, 68, and 912). A second tool will analyze how well the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice are integrated into curricular materials. The third tools will help assess pedagogical aspects of curricular materials. These are now available on the NCSM website at... http://www.mathedleadership.org/ccss/materials.html
Hyperlinked Version of the CCSSM: Want to navigate easily within the CCSSMath document? Try using (or downloading) this hyperlinked version from Bill McCallum and his team. http://commoncoretools.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/ccssi_math_standards_hyperlinked_10.pdf
Visual Depiction of the Mathematical Practices: This brief graphic shows some higherorder structure for the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice. http://commoncoretools.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/practices.pdf
Inside Mathematics This professional resource for educators features classroom examples, tools for mathematics instruction, and video tours of the materials and ideas available on the website. Materials here are being aligned to the CCSSMath. http://www.insidemathematics.org
MARS Project Mathematics Assessment Resource Service: If you've been teaching in Michigan for a while, you might remember the "Balanced Assessment for the Mathematics Curriculum" project a series of workshops and materials around highquality assessment tasks for students (geared toward grades 4, 8, and 912, but can be adapted for other grade level use). If you are looking for resources for "performance events" and "performance tasks" (a la SMARTER Balanced Consortium proposed assessments), you might dig out your BAMC materials, or check out the resources here. http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~ttzedweb/MARS/ (overview) http://www.mathshell.com/scp/ba.htm (synopsis and link to some free resources) http://toolkitforchange.org/toolkit/documents/285_24_ttl_ba_pkgs.pdf (summary of books)
Toolkit for Change from MARS not strictly a CCSSM resource but a wealth of resources about standards, assessment, tools, and more.
